During Plein Air Moab in 2019, I decided my focus would be on the river. Painting plein-air is challenging because of changing light, but adding the element of waves increased the difficulty immensely. I had to study the rhythm of the water to find the shapes that intrigued me the most, while trying to convey a sense of the movement. I keyed in on a few recurring shapes of light and dark areas as the scene before me was constantly changing. Its surprising that the shapes keep appearing, disappearing and reappearing with regularity, but only give a split second to study them.
